Light meeting obstacles

Three possibilities

There's a sharing out amongst the three possibilities when light hits something, such as a table, mirror, window, or curtain?

The height of the orange arrows shows the brightness of the beam before and after it hits the grey square.

If the grey square is:

• opaque then no light is transmitted.
• translucent then some light is transmitted.
• transparent: ideally all light is transmitted.

Opaque things cast sharp shadows because they block the light beams, just like your hand.
