Field patterns

Know the field patterns to predict how the walking out will go. To make things easy, work in two dimensions. Notice how the course of any field line could be the result of repelling all the field lines around it radially and being under tension axially.

In three dimensions the Earths field looks like this.

Disc magnets are available—these are just liike bar magnets as well, but squashed along the axis.

An electric current in a wire or a coil also results in distinctive field patterns.

That pattern looks very much like a bar magnet.

So do a pair of slab magnets, facing each other.
